Laurel Election Update

It appears that Laurel will have an election. Joshua Duryea has filed to run for mayor. He will be joining current mayor John Shwed. So far Laux4Mayor has not filed.

There are three seats on the council that are up for election. So far William Trujillo in the Third Ward and Don Phillips, Councilman At Large from the Second Ward have filed to retain their seats. No one has filed for the Second Ward seat.

As a reminder, to run for office, you must file by Thursday, February 19, 2009.

In addition, if you wish to cast a vote in the election, you must register at the town offices by Thursday, February 26, 2009. To register, town residents can pick up a form at the town offices or download from the town’s web site. The forms are handled during business hours. The town has scheduled two after hours voter registration dates. One occurred this past Wednesday, February 11th. The next will be Tuesday, February 17th until 6:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to register to vote will need to be at least 18 years of age and a resident of Laurel, they will need to show a proof of address, either photo id, utility bill, etc.

    Elbert,
    I am friends with Laux4Mayor and intended to be his campaign manager. After numerous discussions with his family he decided it was not in their best interest for him to run. While disappointed I fully support his decision.
