Laurel resident Troy Elzey was stopped at a DUI checkpoint in Blades. After state police administered the field sobriety tests, they informed Elzey that he was under arrest. Elzey decided to fight with the officers who eventually carried him to Troop 5. Elzey “used several racial slurs when speaking to the arresting officer and threatened the trooper and his family.” Once arriving at Troop 5 Elzey refused to take a breathalyzer test and assalted an officer. He was ultimately charged with “resisting arrest, offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, terroristic threatening , menacing and disorderly conduct.”
Lessons learned? Show some common sense by not fighting with a police officer. Don’t drink, but if you must, don’t get behind a wheel of a car.
