I am “politically aware” person, but I had never heard of the Blue Enigma Party until I was looking over the list of ballot-qualified candidates. “Blue Enigma” sounds more like the name of a band or record label than the name of a political party. Their web site is fairly plain and simple. Their platform centers around more teachers and fewer school districts, addressing crime problems, “green energy”, and legalizing more gambling and sports betting. It sounds like a nitch Democrat party. The candidate for governor admits that the party was created around his ideas.

Blue Enigma has a candidate on the ballot for governor and lieutenant governor.

Comparing Delaware to other states (Wikipedia), it is a lot easier to create a political party and get ballot access. According to the code:

No political party shall be listed on any general election ballot unless, 21 days prior to the date of the primary election, there shall be registered in the name of that party a number of voters equal to at least 5/100 of 1 percent of the total number of voters registered in the State as of December 31 of the year immediately preceding the general election year.

Based on the total number of voters in Delaware on September 1, 2008 (website), which is 583,698, my math says that you’d only need 292 voters to register for your party. So if you see the Elbert Party on the ballot in the next election…
