Laurel’s Independence Day Celebration

This week the Laurel Star reports some of the details concerning this year’s Independence Day celebration. The Red, White, and Blue Parade will be held as it was last year, on the evening of July 3rd. The evening schedule was enjoyed by our family because it avoided the heat of the day. The Independence Day’s events will be held down in Janosik Park along Front Street. It doesn’t say in the Star’s article but I would assume that Front Street and part of Delaware Ave. will be closed to accommodate the event. The carnival will be in the empty lot on Central Ave. across from Pizza King. The prayer breakfast will start off the festival on Friday. And yes, the fireworks are still happening at dusk.

Two events will be returning to the festival. First, the car show will be held, as it was in the past, at the Game Zone parking lot on Central Ave. I really missed that one. Second, the talent show will be part of the entertainment during the day.

More than likely I will be cooking chicken on the grill at my house, but I plan on getting out to do more this year. At the very least, I’ve got to go down and get a funnel cake and see the cars. It would be very nice to see some of the local bloggers there, even some of the commenters too. If you’re coming to Laurel, we’ve got to hook up to at least say “hi” to each other.
