Last week, the remaining members of the rock band The Greatful Dead endorsed Barak Obama for President of The United States. According to this news article, they have never done this before.

“The last time hope was in the air, it was ended by a bullet,” [band member Bob] Weir said, referring to Robert F. Kennedy, who was assassinated on the night he won the California Democratic primary in 1968. “We’ve been reluctant to do political events all along.”

The article also quotes a fan, who said he had voted for the Green Party candidate and added, “If I had to cast a write-in ballot, I’d put Jerry Garcia,” the band’s late front-man.

In a widely spread rumor, it has been reported that some fans had seen the late Garcia alive right after his bandmates’ endorsement. He only spoke one sentence, adding his voice to theirs: “If I was really alive, I’d vote for Obama.” Shortly thereafter, he disappeared.
