Mike Huckabee Does Well In Iowa

From The Washington Times:

Mitt Romney won yesterday’s Iowa Republican Party straw poll, but the best showing went to former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, whose strong second-place finish gives him a much-needed boost going forward.

I’m glad to see that Mike Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas, did well. I know Dave over at First State Politics is pretty happy that Mitt won, but I understand that Romney spent some serious cash out there while Huckabee didn’t have much to spend but pulled off #2. Personally I think Mike Huckabee is a stronger conservative candidate, but I guess time will tell what will happen. I still think that electing a northern candidate is going to be hard. Huckabee is from the south and has 10 years of leadership under his belt in a largely Democrat state.

The numbers from Iowa:

Mitt Romney — 4516 (31.5%)
Mike Huckabee — 2587 (18.1%)
Sam Brownback — 2192 (15.3%)
Tom Tancredo — 1961 (13.7%)
Ron Paul — 1305 (9.1%)
Tommy Thompson — 1039 (7.3%)
Fred Thompson — 203 (1.4%)
Rudy Giuliani — 183 (1.3%)
Duncan Hunter — 174 (1.2%)
John McCain — 101 (1%)
John Cox — 41 (0.1%)

(Bold and red emphasis is mine.)

The Wall St. Journal attributes Huck’s high numbers to his advocacy of the Fair Tax. This tax plan would put our nation’s economy on steroids.
