That brings to mind another song. There’s a popular song by Foster The People called “Pumped Up Kicks” which I got hooked on when I heard the chorus playing on my son’s cell phone. It’s a catchy song which easily got stuck in my head. Thinking it would be nice to know the words to the song, I did a search. Well, I didn’t know what to make of what I found. Poking around further, I found this answer to the question, “What is ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ about?”:

‘Pumped Up Kicks’ is about a kid that basically is losing his mind and is plotting revenge. He’s an outcast. I feel like the youth in our culture are becoming more and more isolated. It’s kind of an epidemic. Instead of writing about victims and some tragedy, I wanted to get into the killer’s mind, like Truman Capote did in ‘In Cold Blood.’ I love to write about characters. That’s my style. I really like to get inside the heads of other people and try to walk in their shoes.

Well, after reading the lyrics and this explanation, this song is ruined for me. Still, I’m having trouble getting that chorus out of my head…

State Police Probe Laurel Little League Robbery/Burglary

Resume:
Laurel-Delaware State Police are currently seeking information into a robbery/burglary which occurred Monday evening around 7:35 p.m.

The robbery/burglary occurred at the Laurel Little League’s Concession stand located off of Woodland Ferry Road Laurel Delaware. The investigation revealed that a 48 year old Laurel man had come to the little league concession stand in order to perform maintenance inside of the building.

When the victim entered the building he observed an interior light already illuminated. The victim became suspicious of this light being on and decided to exit the building. As the victim began to leave he observed the light shut off and then heard voices.

The victim was attacked from behind by at least two suspects and stripped of his wallet and a Dell laptop computer. After taking the victim’s belongings the suspects fled the scene.

The victim sustained minor bruises to his neck, arm and elbow. The victim did not require immediate medical treatment.

When State Troopers and Laurel Police Department arrived on scene a K-9 track was conducted which yielded negative results in locating the suspects.

One time the Cypress Swamp in Gumboro was suggested. Other times it’s been some of the beaches currently under the state’s control. Quite honestly I don’t see the point. Forty-nine other states have national parks, so what if Delaware doesn’t have one? One can only imagine the pain and suffering the federal government would impose on property owners bordering the national park, like how much fertilizer they could put on their lawn or what type of septic system they could have. The possibilities could be endless. With regard to this matter, Delaware doesn’t need to be a “me too!” state.

I really don’t know if much more needs to be said. This time through it seems that Delaware’s congressional delegation is hell-bent on making it happen. Senator Carper, Senator Coons, and Rep. Carney have afflicted us with The First State National Historical Park Act of 2011. Gee, I wish they had that much passion for other things that increased our economy, our personal freedoms, and jobs. Of course, the pitch for the national park is to bring in tourism dollars, based on this quote from Sen. Tom Carper from the press release:

“I cannot wait for the day when families all across this country and the world will plan their vacations around the Delaware National Park…”

I don’t know about you but if they aren’t planning them now, what thing about making these properties part of a “national park” will magically make people want to come here now? Does this First State National Historical Park Act come with Jedi mind tricks too?

It would seem that in a time when our federal government needs to be more careful about how it spends it’s money we wouldn’t be dumping it into projects that are already being well taken care of by our own state or local organizations.
