Heat Wave #2

Local forecasts are suggesting that we are going into another heat wave. Ugh. The next three days will give us highs in the 90’s, dipping back down into the 80s starting Sunday. Turn on the air conditioners and drink lots of water!

Remember you can monitor actual local temperatures from one of two weather stations right here in Laurel. Both weather stations offer conditions in real time. Go to Weather Underground and take a look.

It’s A Heat Wave

It doesn’t take rocket science to figure out that it’s hot out there. In fact, the thriving metropolis of Laurel, DE cracked the 100 degree mark today. The Laurel Middle School’s weather station recorded 100.1 degrees at 2:08PM (link). According to the forecast, Laurel will be under the heat oppression for one more day.

Watercooler Weather reports the record highs for Monday (today) and Tuesday.

WBOC’s forecast reports:

Temperatures will remain dangerously hot through Tuesday with highs in the mid to upper 90s, and Heat Indices over 100! We’ll see a bit of relief late Tuesday, as a cold front slides through and provides a chance of showers and t’storms. High temps behind the front will fall back into the mid 80s for the remainder of the week and then climb to near 90 Saturday.

Looking at WBOC’s extended forecast, we will experience lows on Thursday and Friday in the low 60s. That’s much better that the low 70s, which we have had during this heat wave.

On a final note, I am surprised by the lack of global warming stories while in this heat wave (JunkScience.com).

UPDATE: I just found out from WBOC that Georgetown did break the record high. The record had been 96 set in 1959. Today’s temperature of 97 breaks that record.

Saturday’s Deadly Georgetown Accident

The multi-car accident that happen at Gravel Hill east of Georgetown Saturday was caused by an illegal alien. The News Journal reports:

The driver of the vehicle that triggered a five-vehicle, chain-reaction fatal crash over the weekend east of Georgetown has been identified as 30-year-old Noe Gonzalo Mendez-Perez, of Georgetown, state police said Monday. The crash killed Mendez-Perez and three others.

What the News Journal (and WBOC) failed to report was what WGMD reported:

Both Gutierrez-Santico and Mendez-Perez were in the country illegally.

38 year-old Apolinar Gutierrez-Santico was driving a Grand Am which fled the scene. He turned himself in on Monday. Gutierrez-Santico lived in Laurel while residing illegally in this country. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving without a license and failure to have proof of insurance. Again, to be clear, he was involved in the accident but did not cause the accident. The accident was caused by illegal alien Noe Gonzalo Mendez-Perez.

Michelle Malkin has reported about problems with illegals involved in traffic accidents here and here. The latter post was about a widely reported story involving a school bus accident. Not much was reported about the women’s illegal status either.

Robbed At An ATM

WBOC reports that a man was robbed at the Wilmington Trust ATM on Friday evening, January 4th at 7:10.

This is from WBOC’s report:

Officers learned from the victim that while at the ATM machine a male suspect walked up to the victim and demanded money. When the victim refused, the suspect punched the victim in the face. The suspect was able to get an undisclosed amount of money from the victim.

Police say the suspect is described as a black male, approximately 18 to [20] years of age, approximately 5-foot-10, between 150 and 180 pounds, clean shaven and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black long-sleeve button-up shirt and possibly a black hat or do rag.

It’s distressing to hear stuff like this. I often wondered if any of the ATMs in town would be a target. That one seemed to be the safest of them all, certainly safer than County Bank, which is behind the bank and out of view of the road. If you have any information on this, give the Laurel Police a call at 875-2244.

No Surprise, Another Hold-up In Laurel

I missed this one from Sunday night. WBOC reports that Devin Bagwell of Laurel held up Hardee’s out on US Route 13 around 8:45pm on October 14, 2007. Bagwell is also wanted for an attempted hold-up back in September. We were at home watching TV when we heard a helicopter flying around with a light as well as a Laurel Police cruiser poking around with a light down our quiet street. I guess they were looking for Bagwell. For a laugh, one of our kids went upstairs and grabbed a baseball bat to defend our happy home. I doubt Bagwell would be around our place, we’re flat broke, plus we’ve got more than one bat.

The story is right here.

New WBOC News Anchor

I just watched the 11pm news on WBOC and saw their new anchor. Seemed to do a good job. WBOC’s got his bio up on the site. The guy’s got a nice resume. Curiousity had me, so I Googled him and found a blog and a MySpace page. Sorry to see that his viewpoint is liberal. Hopefully his viewpoints won’t color his news reporting like so many of the people he has listed as his heros on the MySpace page.

It does make me wonder how many libs they’ve got there at WBOC. I haven’t noticed a regular liberal slant. At times it seems that their national news reporting is just the same old crap that CBS spews out. It would be nice sometimes to just watch the news and not feel like you’re being maniplulated by someone. I guess that’s why I watch Fox.
