Georgia House Update

The place is looking nice…

It was reported to me that due to a delay with the furnishings the restaurant will be opening in mid-June instead of a planned earlier opening. I think there are many folks that are ready to test drive this restaurant’s new location.

Around The Flugelhorn Sunday

Some blogposts of note from around… everywhere.

UPDATE: You should read this with Dan Fogelberg’s song “Longer” playing in the background. I’m told that is a flugelhorn playing the solo.

I like mushrooms in my salad and on my pizza. I would never eat some I just picked out of a field, but Delmar Dustpan reports that a Laurel couple did just that.

Brian is pondering healthy thoughts. He’s adding more water to his diet. It seems that adding more water to my life also makes me feel better, although I prefer that water to come in the form of sweet tea or fresh ground coffee. Can anybody say “amen” to that?

Paul informs his readers about a song first published 100 years ago this week. This was a very popular song, still sung today, whose first line is, “Katie Casey was base ball mad.”

I have judged that Jeff The Baptist’s post on Twisted Verses is worth a read.

Michael took his readers out shopping recently and confirms the pain in our wallets. I’m happy to know that there is someone else that does most of their grocery shopping at Walmart. Out family does venture into Food Lion in Laurel if we need something right away or if it’s on sale. If we are down in Salisbury, we will check on Giant or Superfresh for sale items, particularly boneless chicken and some of that 8 o’clock coffee. Mmm.

Wow, three of these posts were about food. It wasn’t done on purpose, I promise. But, right now I’m thinking about that pot of coffee…

Delmar Pizza In Laurel? No

The Pizza Palace closed last year. This spring most of us traveling Central Ave. have noticed that work has been going on there. It will be nice to see that building housing a business again.

I have been told that rumors were spreading that Delmar Pizza was going to open a restaurant in that building. The rumors are not true. There will be an Italian restaurant in there, but Delmar Pizza will remain in Delmar, for now anyway.

Around The Tuba Thursday

To title this post “around the horn” just sounds so much like… everybody else, so why not tell you what kind of horn?

Delaware Liberal waxes juvenile with Top “Mike Castle and John McCain are so old…” Jokes (To Date).

Howard at Delmar Dustpan has a post about Joshua Hopkins Marvil, former governor of Delaware who passed away on April 8, 1895, one of several governors from Laurel.

Michael at Monoblogue is being stalked by another local blogger but he seems to be handling it well. Oh, and if you are reading this Michael, I will respond to this post as soon as possible. I’m still thinking.

Jeff The Baptist has found out you can get real classic Coke in the US. I haven’t had the chance to look yet, but I will!

Hube points out a publicly-funded religious school in Minnesota, and oh yeah, it’s not a Christian school either.

Brian at PonderMints has just been having a crappy week month. Between his health and driving problems, he has been stressed. Let’s offer up a prayer for him. He could use some relief.

Mike Mahaffie found an odd word in Outlook’s dictionary.

Uh… that’s all I’ve got.

Future Laurel Georgia House Gets A Facelift

The Laurel Redevelopment Corporation is giving the restaurant formerly known as RJ’s a make-over for it’s new tenants. The Georgia House will be opening a location here, joining the ones already in Millsboro, Milford, and Selbyville. In their April 3, 2008 edition, The Leader State Register is reporting that the target date for opening is June 1. As you can see from the exterior, the place is looking very nice. The best news is that there will be no bar in there, although “adult” beverages will be served. Well, maybe the best news is that Laurel will have one less empty business.

Georgia House Coming To Laurel?

I have heard that Georgia House Restaurant will be opening in Laurel in the old RJ’s place. Currently they have a restaurant in Millsboro. It’s a great place to eat. It will be nice to have a business back in the empty building, and what better restaurant? Here’s the best part: they are within walking distance from home! The wife and I will need to go for a walk this spring.

On The Subject of Food

Average Girl has been posting recipes on her blog, but her best food post has been on scrapple. Scrapple is that wonderful food I ate as a young lad. Toss some eggs over easy and a slice of toast on the plate with it and I’m ready to eat. My doctor was not happy that I consumed it so I needed to scratch it from my diet. Well…

Delmar Dustpan has a great article on family grocery stores in Delmar from “back in the day”. I don’t know about many where I was raised over in eastern Sussex. I’m sure that they were at least as plentiful as in Delmar. There was a place in our neighborhood that was at one time a sub shop. It is currently someone’s home, resting in a odd location well away from Central Avenue and other major roads. I am sure in it’s time the location didn’t matter if the food was good.
