The Other Side of Some Words

I get a newsletter that gives you a unique word each day. The words they discuss this week cover lesser-known counterparts of common words. Every one of these words were fascinating.

Instead of postponing that event, why not prepone? To prepone is to reschedule an event to an earlier time.

Most people would like to find a utopia, but no one would want to find dystopia, a place where everything is bad.

We don’t exhume bodies as often as we inhume them. Inhume means “to bury.”

A placebo is a “pharmacologically inert preparation prescribed more for the mental relief of the patient than for its actual effect on a disorder” (Miriam-Webster). A nocebo is “a substance producing harmful effects in someone because it is believed to be harmful, but which in reality is harmless.”

Shameless Plug

This is purely a shameless plug. If you’ve read this blog for a while or if you look through the previous posts, this is not a habit or reason I do this blog.

I do computer repairs during my day job but I also do it in my off hours. I service all types of problems including hardware replacement, software troubleshooting, setup, removal of viruses and adware/spyware, and nearly anything else related to the computer. I do residential and business repairs. I’m CompTIA A+ Certified and having been doing computer services professionally for 6 years. If you live in the greater Laurel area or even further (or even further than that) and could use my help, drop me a note at thatselbert [at] gmail [dot] com.

And now back to your regularly scheduled blog…

Stupid Criminals Delaware Edition

Last week on February 26 the Laurel Police seized 105 pounds of pot. How did they get it? They got it from a vehicle they stopped for running a red light. The driver, Donald P. Gayle, was coming from Virginia Beach heading to his home in New Jersey. Also last week on February 29, Harrington Police seized 140 pounds of pot. How did they get it? They got it from a vehicle with the wrong license plates. The driver, Sherri N. Taylor, was coming from New Jersey heading to Norfolk, VA.

Both Gayle and Taylor were stopped for simple traffic violations. One was going from VA to NJ, the other was going from NJ to VA. Maybe Gayle should have stayed in NJ and hooked up with Taylor and shared the wacky weed. Then they would have been off the road and out of jail. Well, that’s why I call them stupid criminals.

Two thumbs up to officers in both towns for getting 245 pounds of marijuana out of circulation.

The News Journal article is here.
